Stranger Things season 4: Jim Hopper’s back door escape plan outed in detail you missed

Stranger Things left every viewer emotional in the final episode of season three. After fighting against the Russians and the malevolent forces of the Upside Down for ten episodes, Jim Hopper (played by David Harbour) was killed off by shutting down a generator which opened a portal to the Upside Down.

The generator then exploded, bringing down the facility, and Hopper with it.

Fans were devastated, and instantly began suggesting he had not really been killed off, but transported to the other world.

Then, came the show’s post-credit scene, which featured members of the Russian military talking about a prisoner – The American – who fans soon began suggesting was really Hopper.

However, other fans have begun theorising over how Hopper will return – and it isn’t how one would think.

  • Stranger Things season 4: Hopper’s death ‘confirmed’ by David Harbour?

Viewers think he did survive, but not through jumping through a portal to the Upside Down.

And Reddit user Ritzbitz14 recently voiced this theory, saying: “I think that Hopper was somehow able to get away from the machine and hide from the explosion, before being apprehended by Russians escaping the base.”

The user explained the remaining members of the facility escaped from the base with the help of a back door.

They went on: “The Russians were evacuating the base through some secret exit, a backdoor, if you will, and ran into Hopper on the way.

“This is supported by the fact that when the American Military came storming through the base just minutes after the explosion they were not shown capturing any Russians even though they were running through the heart of the base.

“We also don’t see any captured Russians up in the parking lot where we see lots of military guys and Will and his mother getting reunited.”

This theory does take some suspension of disbelief, but the user added: “It’s obviously possible that the Russians were captured, but why not show that?

“The fact that we don’t see any captured Russians seems like a pretty significant detail.”

This is how the fan believes Hopper went on to get captured by the Russians, and sent to Russia as a prisoner.

They conclude: “After escaping through this backdoor, the Russians and their prisoner managed to get back to Russia and locked Hopper up.”

Could his death have truly been a huge misdirect to see him captured during his escape?

Meanwhile, Hopper star David has recently been speaking out about his character’s death, and has even alluded to him being dead permanently.

Speaking at Comic Con in Dortmund, he explained: “I think Hopper — from the very beginning I’ve said this — he’s very lovable in a certain way, but also, he’s kind of a rough guy.

“Certainly in the beginning of season one he’s kind of dark, and he’s drinking, and he’s trying to kill himself, and he hates himself for what happened to his daughter.”

Dramatically, he added: “I feel like, in a sense, that character needed to die.”

Stormzy REVIEW: Heavy Is The Head proves rapper deserves bragging rights on powerful album

Stormzy has been crowned indisputable pop culture icon in more ways than one this year. The Grime MC, born Michael Omari, cemented his status on stage after being cherry-picked to assume the heavily scrutinised headline slot at Glastonbury and made history as the first British rapper to take it on.

TIME Magazine then hailed him as one of 10 Next Generation Leaders “who are shaping the world”, to which he responded by insisting he was “deeply flawed” in spite of the accolade.

Stormzy’s battle between his powerful persona and introspective tendencies is demonstrated throughout his latest album, Heavy Is The Head.

In equal parts abrasive and smooth, the 16-track record, which follows his 2017 debut Gang Signs & Prayer, presents a detailed portrait of the South Londoner’s vulnerability amid his inner struggles and meteoric rise to fame.

It opens with the brash Big Michael, which sees the 26-year-old warn his rivals that their “time is up” in a brassy call to action, as he declares bragging rights by branding himself “not top two, top one”.

The star then teams up with Tottenham-born rapper Headie One for Audacity, on which he references the Union Jack emblazoned, Banksy-designed stab vest he famously donned on stage at Glastonbury.

He recounts the pressure that accompanied the style statement while the beat suddenly fades out to magnify his words: “When Banksy put the vest on me, felt like God was testing me.”

Crown, which peaked at number four in the UK charts, marks a drastic shift in the tone of the album, seeing Stormzy pause for a moment of quiet self-reflection to weigh up the responsibilities that come with his leadership after listing his unrivaled achievements.

An uplifting response to negativity comes on Rainfall, which features ingeniously sampled elements of Shackles (Praise You) by gospel duo Mary Mary and the soulful layered vocals of Tiana Major9, revolving around the hook “Let the rain fall on my enemies”, hinting at the artist’s widely documented “grime beef” involving Wiley and Ed Sheeran.

Rachael’s Little Brother samples an auto-tuned rendition of Big Brovaz’s Baby Boy, leading into a frank discussion about mental health, as Stormzy admits: “I bottle up then I spill it to my therapist.” He goes on to croon in a heartfelt declaration about appreciating “the little things in life”.

The rapper’s self-aggrandising verses return in Handsome, (“Young, fly and handsome”) spat alongside a jagged beat with a distorted electronic piano accompaniment, as he encourages the next generation to step up and claim their rights, while taunting critics: “Diss me if you dare”.

Stormzy dedicates a portion of his notoriously pitchy, but sincere, vocals on Do Better to God for saving him after he “nearly fell into the ground”. Rousing backing vocals resonate throughout, providing a comforting but stirring message for the BRIT Award winner: “Everything is okay but I need you to do better”.

Don’t Forget to Breathe features Mark Ronson’s Late Night Feelings collaborator YEBBA, who lends her hauntingly beautiful voice to advise: “Chase your dreams, you don’t have time to sleep.”

Stormzy is joined by Grammy Award-winning American singer and songwriter H.E.R. for One Second, which outlines his social conscience inspired by his Ghanian single mother’s words: “Mummy always said if there’s a cause I should fight for it.” He also takes a moment to pay homage to those who strive to make a difference without being acknowledged, adding: “There’s people fighting every day and they don’t get the credit”.

A clear banger then emerges in Pop Boy, a collaborative track with breakout rapper and Taste hitmaker Aitch, whose distinctive Mancunian drawl adds humorous bravado to Stormzy claiming his transcendence from grime to pop music: “I’ll never stop popping, I’m the pop boy”.

Singles Own It (featuring Ed Sheeran and Burna Boy) and Wiley Flow arrive next, with the former representing the “pop boy” jewel in Stormzy’s crown and the latter saluting the godfather of grime.

Stormzy goes on to issue several bars in Bronze to harshly remind other rappers of his chart-topping command of the game: “Anything I drop top 40,” while citing NBA champion LeBron James for further impact: “Ball like LeBron this year”.

One of the most unexpected moments of the album, however, can be heard in Superheroes, which samples The Tracy Beaker Show’s intro Someday, bringing a nostalgic feel. The lyrics are dedicated to “young black kings” and “young black queens”, championing the next generation, as Stormzy insists: “The world ain’t ready for your magic yet.”

Lessons provides the rapper with one last opportunity for self-analysis in a deeply personal reflection on a failed relationship after the hip-hop star split from his girlfriend of four years, Radio 1 DJ Maya Jama, earlier this year. He seems to admit to some wrongdoing on his part with the words: “If I were you, I’d be unforgiving too,” after owning up to being “such a handful”.

Although he laments the loss of the romance, Stormzy appears to have no resentment about the situation and poignantly shares a realisation about the impact his ex had on his emotional growth: “You taught me love, oh what a gift.”

Heavy Is The Head aptly concludes with infectiously catchy hit Vossi Bop, which marked the star’s first UK number one single. This epic finale not only validates Stormzy’s unparalleled ascension to the peak of pop music, but also celebrates and appreciates the inner dilemmas he has faced during his journey to his crowning achievement.

“When I met Freddie, he said, ‘What are you doing here?’

“It was early summertime and we knew it was very nice outside, so we headed to the Chinese Tower for a couple of beers.

“What happened next was really, really funny.”

Mack revealed: “Freddie was wearing ballerina shoes, and shorts that matched his Hawaiian shirt.

“The beer garden was packed with full tables and about 8,000 to 10,000 people were there, all told.

Chris Evans: Virgin Radio host left mortified after major Christmas dinner revelation

Chris Evans, 53, had quite the shock last week when he welcomed fourth generation turkey farmer Tom Copas, to his Virgin Radio show to talk about the traditional Christmas feast. In a very hands-on demonstration, the farmer revealed that there is a specific way to cut a turkey to ensure you get the best tasting slices of meat.

Oh my God, you cut across. I always went in line with the spine!

Chris Evans

Tom, from Copas Traditional Turkeys, explained that he had reared over 40, 000 turkeys this year alone, a figure that had risen considerably from the 153 birds his father started out with when he began the business.

“Wow, 153?!” Chris exclaimed, surprised at the significant growth.

The farmer then produced a defrosted turkey he had brought with him to the show to demonstrate how to professionally carve the bird to enjoy its succulent meat.

“I started cooking this at 4 o’clock this morning, it’s been a complete first for me, I’ve never cooked a turnkey that early in the morning!” He laughed.

Chris was grateful he was bringing his expertise to the studio: “Thank you, now how do you cook yours, because you are the man,” he said, eager to get a professional insight.

Tom listed a couple of tips he uses on Christmas day that allows him and his family to get the most out of their turkey and get optimum use out of the oven while cooking the most hectic lunch of the year.

He suggested flipping the turkey upside down after an hour of cooking, so the fat juices can soak into the breast meat, adding to the flavour.

The Virgin Radio DJ could be heard in the background moaning, clearly the smell of the turkey was making him and the team hungry!

He suggested they move on to carving the bird next and it was here that he was left shocked to find out he had been doing it wrong his whole life.

“Can you give us a fool proof, bluffers guide to carving a turkey?” He asked.

The farmer demonstrated his method while talking Chris and the team through each step: “Grab the leg like that and cut down the inside of the leg, then cut down the other side and pull away.

The radio team could be heard arguing over a piece of leg meat, as listeners heard Chris run away from the mic as someone shouted: “No! I wanted that bit!”

Despite the commotion, Tom carried on: “Securely put the carving fork into the breast meat.”

Chris quizzed: “What’s the first incision? Because people get it wrong all the time.”

The farmer explained the angle the knife needed to be at: “You want to go just kind of in the middle of the breast just to kind of get a centre, a centre of the breast, where you just get a really good firm secure hold on it.

“Then we’ve got to cut diagonally across a breast like we know with wood you cut across the grain, so, we are going to cut across the breast just like that,” he said.

Chris was shocked by the revelation, telling Tom: “Oh my God, you cut across. I always went in line with the spine!” He exclaimed, through mouthfuls of turkey.

Tom replied: “There you go. Because you’ve got the wing and the leg out of the way, you can cut across, and you want nice thick slices.”

The radio DJ was bemused: “And that’s where you get the nice shape as well. The steak shape almost. Well there you go.”

Game of Thrones: Melisandre plot hole debunked with Volantis theory?

Game of Thrones viewers witnessed some epic battles in the final season of the show. Perhaps the most dangerous of all the fights was at Winterfell, which saw the armies of Jon Snow (played by Kit Harington) and Deanerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) taking on the forces of the undead, at the behest of the Night King (Vladimir Furdik).

Eventually it was Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) who ended the battle outright, but she received a lot of help from the red with Melisandre (Carice van Houten).

Melisandre arrived to give the blessing of her god to the Dothraki, which engulfed their weapons in flame, and allowed them to deal fatal blows to their foes.

But fans have since been discussing Melisandre’s journey on the show, and how it progressed in season seven to season eight.

Viewers will remember season seven saw the witch disappear from the show, as she explained she needed to set out for Volantis.

But this was ultimately a strange move, as she eventually returned to Westeros to fight in the battle against the Night King.

Reddit user arthasmenethil0 recently laid it out and said: “In Season seven, she said she has important business in Volantis but she will return to Westeros because she was destined to die there.

“I know they pretty much scrapped this, but what do you think they intended with that scene?”

While the user claims this supposed plot line was “scrapped”, fans of the show have since suggested ways for this disappearance to add to the show’s narrative.

Melisandre’s disappearance occurred until she arrived back in Winterfell, ready to fight the undead.

During this battle she utilised powers she didn’t have before, and fans think her trip to Volantis was used to help bolster her abilities.

One wrote: “My takeaway from the show is that she needed to go back and get the necessary superpowers for The Long Night episode, but who knows.”

It would then make sense for Melisandre to have gotten these new powers from her god in Volantis in exchange for her life.

Shortly after her stint in Winterfell, the spell caster walked into the night and died, ending her legacy with a triumphant final act.

However in the books her work was not yet over, as she was supposed to magically change the appearance of Mance Rayder (Ciaran Hinds).

In the books, Melisandre was responsible for keeping Mance safe from harm after being captured by the Night’s Watch.

The sly witch made Mance look like a sideline character, by the name of Rattleshirt.

In return, she also made Rattleshirt look exactly like Mance, leaving him to get put on the pyre.

Rattleshirt was then killed off, leaving Mance secretly alive, known to no one but Melisandre and Jon Snow.

And while this avenue of secrecy was never explored in the show, could it have happened right under Stannis Baratheon’s (Stephen Dillane) nose?

If so, would Melisandre have gotten away with it after Stannis was killed off?

Stephen Colbert Imagines Rudy Giuliani’s Defense Of Donald Trump And It’s Egg-Cellent

Stephen Colbert on Friday imagined how attorney Rudy Giuliani would defend his client, Donald Trump, at a Senate impeachment trial.

“The Late Show” host noted how Giuliani is currently “being very coy” about continuing his Ukraine dealings amid the impeachment inquiry into Trump.

He then aired Giuliani’s recent interview with disgraced former Fox News host Eric Bolling in which the former New York City Mayor verbally stumbled and inadvertently admitted to being in Ukraine. “I am not here to… I don’t have to defend myself,” he said.

“Good save, Rudy,” laughed Colbert, who then foresaw Giuliani using the same tactics to defend Trump.

“Mr. Giuliani, when did the president commit bribery?” Colbert imagined Giuliani being asked. “It was on Friday… fried eggs,” Colbert replied as Giuliani. “Fried eggs, his favorite breakfast food to eat when not being guilty, which is always?”

Jodie Whittaker reveals she almost ‘died’ filming Doctor Who season 12: ‘It was horrific’

Doctor Who fans will be delighted to see that their beloved show is back on screens on New Year’s Day. However, it seems there was a very serious incident during filming which could have put an end to it all together.

Current Doctor Jodie Whittaker explained on Graham Norton, which will air this evening, how she almost got bitten by a deadly spider.

While filming in South Africa, a poisonous insect made its way in to her costume after crawling over her face.

She told Norton: “Unbeknownst to me, the crew was filming a huge sac spider, and no one told me how terrifying and dangerous it was, and it crawled down my face and inside my costume.

“I absolutely bricked it and can’t repeat what I said.

Whittaker couldn’t say a lot about the upcoming episodes, with secrecy being notoriously tight around Doctor Who.

She did tease, however, that season 12 is potentially one of the biggest batch of episodes to air on the BBC.

Whittaker told Norton: “I can’t tell you much, but it’s very ambitious and kicks off with a two-parter, with the first part on New Year’s Day.

“It is really exciting and it’s great to have the team back together.

“I can also tell you that Stephen Fry and Lenny Henry are part of the ensemble.”

Bohemian Rhapsody: Rami Malek says playing Freddie Mercury inspired THIS in No Time To Die

Earlier this year, Rami Malek won the Best Actor Oscar for playing Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. Having shot to the top of the A-list, the 38-year-old quickly bagged a role as the latest James Bond villain in No Time To Die. Now in a new interview on playing Safin, Malek has revealed what he learnt from playing Freddie Mercury that he took into 007.

Appearing on GMB, Ross King asked Malek if he would have any Bond villain one-liners.

A bit like: “I’ve been expecting you Mr Bond.”

But interestingly the Oscar winner was not keen on having such a catchphrase in No Time To Die.

He said: “Avoid at all costs.”

Malek continued: “It’s a very fine line because you want to make it a very memorable character.

“But at the same time, you don’t want it to be a caricature.

“Working on Bohemian I learnt that. I always thought let’s make [Freddie Mercury], memorable but don’t make him a cartoon.”

Asked about keeping No Time To Die spoilers private, Malek admitted that Queen stars Brian May and Roger Taylor have been trying to get some out of him.

Malek said: “No. I don’t trust anyone.

“Y’know what’s funny is all the members of Queen are often asking me…’Tell us about the plot, tell us about the story.’

“They’re massive fans.”

While the star also admitted to having fallen in love with the British capital after shooting Bohemian Rhapsody and No Time To Die there.

The Oscar-winner added: “I’ve fallen in love with being in London from shooting Bohemian Rhapsody and rehearsing it over the course of two years.

“It’s something that I’m so privileged to be a part of.”

On No Time To Die itself, he said: “I think it’s nice to let everybody come in this one and know that, one, they’re going to see something that is thrilling, action-packed.

“But I think this one might be a bit more emotional.”

While the Bohemian Rhapsody star also revealed a little bit of Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s injection of humour.

The 38-year-old said: “Phoebe just had this level of commitment. She understands how Bond films works.

“At one point we were talking about a scene and I said, ‘Well this is a very climactic moment, are you sure we should interject some humour here?’”

“[Phoebe said:] ‘Well he just can’t help himself can he?’ So she had a really, really good sense of who he was – Bond – but entering all this.”

No Time To Die is released in UK cinemas on April 2, 2020.
